The Jubilee Year of Hope Prayer is the official prayer for the Catholic Church's 2025 Jubilee. Promulgated by the Vatican under the authority of Pope Francis, it asks God to reawaken a “blessed hope” for His Kingdom. It is intended for global use by the faithful to prepare their hearts for this special year of grace.
This prayer was composed specifically for the Jubilee Year of 2025, themed “Pilgrims of Hope.” The tradition of a Jubilee Year is rooted in the Old Testament and was instituted in the Catholic Church by Pope Boniface VIII in 1300. This prayer was promulgated by the Vatican's Dicastery for Evangelization. It reflects Pope Francis's call for the Church to be a tangible sign of hope in a world facing many challenges, making it a distinctly modern prayer within an ancient tradition.
This prayer is a petition for an increase in the theological virtue of hope. It connects hope directly to faith and charity, the other two theological virtues (CCC 1813). The text asks God to make believers “tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel,” expressing the Christian conviction that grace can transform both humanity and the cosmos. It looks forward to the eschatological promise of a “new heaven and a new earth” (Revelation 21:1), where God’s glory will be fully revealed.
This prayer is intended for frequent use during the preparatory period and throughout the 2025 Jubilee Year. It is suitable for personal morning or evening prayer, for parish study groups, and as a closing prayer for meetings. The USCCB encourages its use in diocesan and parish settings to spiritually prepare the faithful for the graces of the Holy Year, especially when reflecting on the theme of Christian hope in daily life.
